We are often asked how guests can help Grenada when they visit, which is an excellent question!
We are thrilled to be members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and bring supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families.
We currently support three projects with our Pack for a Purpose campaign, the GSPCA (Grenada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), the River Sallee Government School, and Ocean Spirits.
Project #1: River Sallee Government School
160 enthusiastic and charming children from ages 5 through 16 in our neighborhood are supported by loving and forward-thinking teachers and staff. The Principal, Mrs. Jean James Ross, is always so welcoming to our guests when we drop off donations, and strives to provide strong educational scaffolding for the growth of her charges.
Project #2 The GSPCA (Grenada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
The GSPCA is integral to the survival of thousands of dogs and cats each year on the Island, and is often the only affordable venue for pet care for so many Grenadians. The dedicated team goes above and beyond in helping dogs and cats on the island. Our own rescue dogs Big Joe and Harry have benefited from their thoughtful assistance (we actually adopted Joe from them) and here are some before and after photos of them so you can see the sort of challenges they are adept at dealing with!
The GSPCA provides low cost and free spay/neuter clinics, an education program, vaccination clinics, a volunteer vet scheme and community outreach programs for unwanted, abused, neglected or stray animals.
Please bring collars, leads/leashes or other helpful items to us to be donated in your name. Here is their current wish list: http://www.gspca.gd/appeals.html
